What makes an emoji work
One idea you can read in a glance. Emoji are read at 20-odd pixels in the middle of a sentence. A single object with a clear shape and one expression beats a tiny scene every time.
A set shares a style. Keep the style chip fixed and change only the subject, and ten emoji look like they belong to one server. The kawaii six above came from one prompt that way.
Text belongs outside. Words inside an emoji blur and models misspell them; the emoji name you type in Discord or Slack is where the words go.

Rights and labelling
Make original emoji: the standard sets belong to the platforms that drew them, and characters from films or games belong to their owners. An emoji of a real person needs that person’s permission, and photos of public figures are declined. Every image generated here is AI-generated and carries a signed C2PA provenance mark, in line with Article 50 of the EU AI Act; anyone can read it on the verification page, and the Content & Safety Policy sets out what may not be created. How do I make a custom emoji with AI?
Type what the emoji shows in the box at the top — a coffee cup giving a thumbs up, a rocket lifting off — pick a style and open the studio. The prompt is written for icons: centred, bold silhouette, thick outline, no text, plain background. It costs 1 credit, and the finisher below cuts it out and sizes it.
What size do Discord and Slack emoji need to be?
Discord recommends 128 × 128 pixels and a file under 256 KB, and resizes other sizes for you. Slack wants a square image under 128 KB and says a transparent background works best. The finisher exports a transparent 128-pixel PNG for each, plus a 512-pixel master to keep.
Why does my emoji need a transparent background?
Because chat apps come in light and dark themes. An emoji on a white square looks like a sticker on a dark theme; a transparent one sits on the message like text. The cut-out step removes the background and centres the emoji on a transparent square.
Which style reads best at emoji size?
Flat and glossy 3D, then kawaii. Emoji appear around 20 pixels high in a message, where outlines and simple shapes survive and texture does not. Pixel style works too, especially with pixel-crisp resizing switched on.
Can I make an emoji of a teammate or of my pet?
A pet, yes: make a cartoon of the photo first, then cut it out here. A teammate only with their permission — and it usually lands better as an original character in their colours than as their face. Photos of public figures are declined.
Can I recreate the standard phone emoji?
Make your own instead. The standard emoji designs belong to the platforms that drew them, so copies are not yours to publish. An original emoji about your team's in-jokes is what custom emoji slots are for anyway.
